Review of Evotel ELCD32USBFHD 32" 1080p LCD TV by: LaurieP on 20th February 2010
Reviewers Rating:

The Evotel ELCD32USBFHD is being wrongfully reported as having 1 HDMI socket, it has 3.

The picture quality is acceptable for being a budget screen but on mines there's a couple of dark shadows that can be seen when the screen is bright. There's also a bit of light bleed at the top corners I believe is caused by the screen being pushed hard to the frame.

I've noticed the sound at a high level when I switch on meaning sometimes it doesn't remember my last setting. The sound itself is loud and clear but too much bass causes the frame to vibrate a little even with some speech. Turning down the bass and increasing the treble fixes it.

The USB input supports .jpg images, DivX or Xvid & MP4 formats. It won't play DivX HD. MP3 is not supported but WMA is. I have tried HD pictures through the USB and they look stunning so I can't see HD video being anything less. A USB stick works but my external HDD isn't recognised. Its NTFS so it might need formatted to FAT32.

Setup is easy with auto tuning of freeview and analogue. I don't have Freeview so I skipped this step.

I purchased a TV bracket that supports up to 32" but it was too small. I'm not sure of VESA standard sizes but a Vesa 200 is too small. You will need one of the brackets that are suited to 42" TV's. I improvised and made 2 metal lengths and bolted them to my bracket to make it wider. The Evotel is quite light at 10.5 kg and was actually lighter than the 20" LCD I replaced it with, but it is quite bulky. You might get away with using a cheaper bracket as long as it supports the weight as opposed to the size. Do what I did and modify you bracket and save money. The Evotel looks good in its piano black finish with a little concave groove running across the length at the bottom finished in a strip of chrome. There is no logo on the TV at all.

Connections include 3 HDMI, 1 USB, 1 VGA(PC), PC audio, S-Video, Y Pb Pr, component L/R audio, CI Slot, 2 Scart (1 RGB), RF in, Coax. There is no monitor out bit you can use coax to send to an external Amp. All connections are at the back. There are control buttons on the right side. The power switch is stupidly placed at the back too.

The manual reports a max PC resolution of 1280x1024. You might get the full resolution if you're PC has HDMI.

All in all I'm happy with my purchase. I bought it for the bedroom so I'm not complaining about having to turn down the bass. It IS a budget TV and you won't get the same useful features like Full HD and DivX support (if at all) even if you purchase the same size TV's that are £150 more expensive.

I purchased mines from Dixons online for £290 delivered. This is £60 cheaper than my local Curry's store. The normal price is £299 but they had a 3% off promotion which is available until the end of Feb I think. Still, without the offer its still a great "delivered" price.

I hope this helps anyone wanting to buy.

I give it four stars because of the Bass and shadow problems.
